OANDA Review

OANDA review for traders in Singapore, the UAE, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, India, Pakistan and Malaysia: its MAS and BVI companies, who it accepts, costs after the FTMO takeover and our score.

OANDA is a long-standing forex specialist with a MAS-licensed company in Singapore and unusually clear disclosure of who serves which country. Elsewhere in our region it uses a BVI company, it doesn't accept Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, India or Pakistan, and its US arm has been fined three times since 2020. It is now owned by prop firm FTMO.

Which OANDA entity will you sign up with?

Your protection depends on the entity that opens your account, not on the strongest license in the group. This is who serves each region, taken from the broker's legal disclosures and checked on the regulator's register where one is published. Every source is listed at the end of the review.

Is OANDA regulated?

Yes. OANDA has run since 1996 and holds licences from the FCA, ASIC, the CFTC and NFA in the US, Japan’s FSA and, in Singapore, MAS. Since December 2025 it has been owned by FTMO, the Czech prop-trading firm, which bought it from private equity group CVC. FTMO’s founders became co-CEOs in March 2026.

Outside its licensed markets, OANDA serves clients through OANDA Global Markets Ltd in the British Virgin Islands, licensed by the BVI Financial Services Commission (SIBA/L/20/1130). That’s the company most of our Gulf and Asian readers would deal with.

OANDA in your country

  • Singapore: OANDA Asia Pacific Pte Ltd, MAS-licensed, with SGD funding and an office at 1 Raffles Place. Leverage is capped at 20:1 for retail clients.
  • UAE and Malaysia: OANDA Global Markets in the BVI, which lists both countries as eligible. Malaysian rules bar residents from trading forex with offshore firms.
  • Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, India and Pakistan: not accepted. None is on the BVI company’s eligible list, and the Singapore company only takes Singapore residents.

OANDA publishes exactly which company serves which country, which is rarer than it should be. We score the BVI company.

Fees and account types

In Singapore, OANDA quotes EUR/USD from 0.8 pips on standard pricing, or from 0.0 pips plus USD 3 per 100,000 units on core pricing. Its homepage says “from 0.6”, so the figures don’t quite agree, and it publishes no averages. Gold starts from 25 cents. The BVI company advertises Standard spreads from 0.6 with no commission, and cheaper Premium tiers for larger accounts.

Watch the fees: up to SGD 20 or USD 20 a month after 12 months without trading, a 1% currency conversion mark-up, and non-SGD withdrawals from Singapore at USD 20 for the first each month, then USD 35.

Deposits and withdrawals

Singapore clients fund by PayNow, FAST or DBS bill payment in SGD, usually within one to two business days, or by bank wire. E-wallets aren’t accepted. BVI clients can use cards (instant), Skrill and Neteller (up to a day), bank wire (three to five days) or Wise. OANDA quotes BVI withdrawals at one to three days to cards, one day to e-wallets and two to five by wire.

Platforms

OANDA’s own web platform and app are clean and well suited to forex. Singapore clients also get MT4, MT5, TradingView and an API; the BVI company offers MT5 and TradingView but not MT4. The Singapore company acts as principal on every trade, with symmetric slippage under its July 2025 execution policy. OANDA publishes no execution statistics.

Is OANDA safe?

Client money is held in trust in Singapore, at Standard Chartered and DBS, and in segregated accounts by the BVI company. Neither entity offers negative balance protection that we could find: OANDA Singapore says plainly that you may lose more than you deposit.

The US arm has a repeat compliance record. The CFTC fined OANDA Corporation USD 500,000 in 2020 for being undercapitalised, the NFA fined it USD 200,000 in 2021, and in May 2025 the NFA imposed USD 600,000 plus restitution over capital, pricing-display and marketing failures. None of these involved its Singapore or BVI companies, but they say something about controls. Complaints about withdrawals mostly involve sites impersonating OANDA, so check the web address.

Who OANDA suits

Forex-focused traders in Singapore who want a MAS-licensed broker with good platforms and clear entity disclosure. UAE traders get a BVI licence instead, and residents of Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, India and Pakistan can’t open an account at all.
